People Portraits

Recently I participated in an online watercolor class Molly Muraah's Watercolor Magic.

One of the excercise in week 4 was to paint this woman:

1/8 Sheet Arches 140 lb CP Watercolor paper, Daniel Smith and Einsor & Newton Watercolors

I didn't like that picture much but I got a favorable responsible on Flickr. So I then tried my nephew:

1/8 Sheet Fabriano Artistico 140 lbs CP Watercolor paper, Daniel Smith Watercolors

Then I tried to paint DH. He hasn't said much anything about the blue eyebrows.

1/16 Sheet Fabriano Aristico 140 lbs CP Watercolor paper, Daniel Smith and Winsor Newton Watercolors

Please don't give up - I took Molly's class too - yours is better than some that she showed in her class by her students. You are wonderful...don't forget she said practice practice and not to give up too soon, that it is easy to get discouraged, but I sure don't think you should be discouraged at all!!!

Your portraits are very good, the color, the framing. Even if you move on to foliage you can still do some...

Your portraits are fine! I especially like the woman, and the face of DH. Very unusual to fill the space with just the facial features, and I like that. Nothing wrong with the blue eyebrows. That's what you have to do with watercolors. I would encourage you to continue, take more classes, if you want, and just keep working.

Your people portraits are excellent! And the one of your DH is my favorite!

You have a real feel for the paint. All of these are terrific but I really like the one of your husband best. I think you are giving up too soon. You're too good to stop now.

Wow you did a great job on these. I recognize the Molly Murrah one and know you did better than the others that I saw. Super really. You really should not quit but do many more. You have to practice to be great - you are already good!

Thank you to everyone who left the encouraging comments. It really helps. It is hard to not be critical of your own work.

Beautiful portraits indeed! I too love the one of your husband. Are these a series of glazes?

Wow! You really did a great job on all three. Not everyone can do what you have. Great art.

Seesue-I did an underpainting of several warm colors then glazed over those with cool colors.
