Virtual Paintout - January 2010

9 in x 12 in Canson 90 lbs Watercolor paper, Windsor & Newton and Grumbacher watercolors
This month's Virtual Paintout is Corsica.

What is interesting about Corsica is all of these mountains on a little island. I found at the end of a road near a "town" called Calasima some cattle climbing up a mountain ridge. I like painting and drawing mountains. When I was 12, I only drew mountains. However, I need more practice with trees.

My good scanner does not work with Windows 7. I had trouble scanning it properly with my Epson All-in-One. I had to slightly enhance the piece to reduce some of the blur in some areas.

This is a lovely picture. I like the tree ! and the way you have included the cattle moving into the scene. I know so little about Corsica and this is not a scene I would think you would see there. I learn a little about each country from this Paintouts!

I think your tree is beautiful! I found myself intrigued by the light values of the mountains themselves juxtaposed with the stunning tree and the cows and their vivid coloring. What a lovely way to handle this one! The sky too is so beautiful! I could so easily live on Corscia...

This is a very nice painting. The tree is very well done. I never would have guessed that you drew only mountains and no trees as a twelve-year-old.

I read your profile. Great combination - bookkeeper and belly dancer!
